Grand Daoist Jiao Ceremony

Hong Kong, November 21-25, 2007

Essential participants: Scholars from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, USA, Canada, Europe, and Australia

Role: The fourth in a series of international conferences to be held every year or two alternately in Asia, Europe, and North America

Discussion areas: Any aspect of Daoism, contemporary or historical, textual or practical. Preferred focus on the communal aspects of Daoism: ritual, political thought, social organization, ethics, environment, government.

Presentation format : Individual papers or complete panels (three papers plus chair, discussant).

Schedule: The conference will begin on Wednesday, November 21, with a plenary session (welcome, keynote speakers). Then panels will be open for four days and various ceremonies associated with the Grand Jiao will be attended. A concluding session with a roundtable discussion on the state of the field will take place on Sunday, November 25. A major banquet will join scholars and Daoist masters.

Fee: US$ 45.00 (HK$ 300), to be paid in cash on arrival

Final schedule and abstracts will be sent out October 15.

Both conference and hotel spaces are limited. Book early to secure your space.

Scholarships: Graduate students (at dissertation stage, ABD) and young PhDs (within three years of graduation) can apply for conference scholarships to cover housing, a food allowance, and half the cost of airfare. Applications should include the information necessary for registration as presenter, the approximate price of the air ticket, and a resume.
